At this point, I’ve visited Portland many times but still get excited to be in that place. The City of Roses is special in so many ways, including but not limited to its abundant nightlife, strong skateboarding community and beautiful surrounding geography. But this trip is different from any that I’ve taken in the past.
This is a one-way flight north, so we’ll be driving back south to Los Angeles (Chloe & I). If you know me, you're familiar with my fetish of the open road and unadulterated exploration, so you wouldn’t be surprised that I’m stoked! Tonight will be spent in Portland, perhaps my last night there for a a while. A neighborhood friend from Highland Park is up there for the summer, and two college friends from Raleigh are in town, so we’re all going to meet up for drinks and a good ol’ time in the city before continuing with Chloe on our trek to Southern California.
All the way to Los Angeles County, approximately 24 hours of driving time, camping along the way and spanning five days. I wish we had unlimited time, but this trip marks the beautiful beginning of a new glorious chapter in our personal lives. Chloe’s moving into my home with me in Highland Park, where we’ll have a garden, new friends together, and more than enough to look forward to. In many ways, this epic is a pleasant foreshadowing of the many opportunities for exploration that will show themselves in the near and eventual futures. The intention is there but not forced. The security of good times is present without the pressure of expectation. Only hopes and happy thoughts going into this camping trip with my love.
Let’s go swimming in the cold waters and fall asleep in the early summer sun. Let’s skate Oregon concrete and hike Californian forestland. Let’s keep it going. Life is short. Life is beautiful.
To times of unlimited possibility.
